One of my favourite ways to spend a day off is to get in the car, drive somewhere an hour or two from home, maybe stop somewhere to have a coffee or lunch, go for a wee walk and then head home. I love a short adventure around the Highlands, exploring new places and seeing new things.
Last October, during the final days of autumn, we had a day off in the middle of the week and decided it was the perfect time to explore a part of the Highlands we hadn't been to in ages, Applecross. My husband's ancestors were originally from Applecross, so it feels like a place very close to our hearts. I've shared about visiting Applecross before, but one highlight of visiting Applecross for us is making a visit to Applecross Walled Garden.

On this autumnal adventure, we struck gold when we discovered we came on the last week of the season for Applecross Walled Garden. As a girl who loves nature and being amongst flowers, I've loved visiting the Walled Garden a couple of times over the years.
We didn't really know what to expect for lunch when we arrived, so we were delighted to see that on the menu when we arrived were freshly made pastas, using local produce (including tomatoes grown in the Walled Garden). I had a fresh Tomato Puttanesca Linguine, whilst Finlay had a Seafood Linguini. Both were fresh and delicious, perfect to help warm up on a cool day.
After our pasta, we had coffees and shared a piece of delicious carrot cake, before heading out into the grounds to explore a bit. With the darker nights really drawing in, we didn't end up having loads of time to actually explore the area, but we did manage to get outside to get some fresh air and explore this part of the West Highlands.
If you're planning on visiting the Applecross Walled Gardens, be sure to check out their social media pages to keep up to date with any special events that might be happening. There are often live music afternoons/evebnings, so it's a great place to spend a couple of hours and relax.
