My Favourite Brunch and Lunch Spots on the Isle of Skye
My favourite meal of the day! If I had to pick a meal that I love to enjoy most on the Isle of Skye, it would have to be brunch (and lunch). The reason I have lumped brunch and lunch together in this post is that I know not everybody is a sweet brunch person. If I'm being totally honest, I think I'm more of a savoury brunch person than a sweet brunch person, whearas my husband is the complete opposite. So we do often get the best of both worlds. Cafe 1925, Isle of Skye
If you've been reading my blog for a number of years now, you'll know how much I love the Sleat Peninsula on the Isle of Skye. It's such an incredible corner of the Isle of Skye that I've loved exploring and getting to know better since moving to the Scottish Highlands five years ago. At this time of year, when the busy summer season is still a long way off, one of my favourite things to do is get out and explore the places we often tell tourists to visit, but don't always g

What's March Really Like in the Scottish Highlands
After four months of gloom, darkness and cold, Spring has fully arrived in the Scottish Highlands! At the beginning of March, we start to wake up in light again after months of waking up in darkness. The snowdrops are fully in blown and the first daffodils are starting to come through. Hopefully by the end of the month, we'll start to see the first spring lambs here in the Scottish Highlands! March is a really interesting month for those of us that live here in the Scottish H

Applecross Walled Garden, Wester Ross
One of my favourite ways to spend a day off is to get in the car, drive somewhere an hour or two from home, maybe stop somewhere to have a coffee or lunch, go for a wee walk and then head home. I love a short adventure around the Highlands, exploring new places and seeing new things. Last October, during the final days of autumn, we had a day off in the middle of the week and decided it was the perfect time to explore a part of the Highlands we hadn't been to in ages, Applecr

The Distillery Tour at Lochranza Distillery, Isle of Arran
Since moving to the Scottish Highlands over five years ago now, one thing that I have come to love about this place is whisky. I never really liked whisky before moving to the Highlands, but over the years (and through many, many tastings) it's become something that I really enjoy learning about and discovering more about the history of. Every winter, my family visit the Isle of Arran . It's become one of my favourite trips every year, and I love the chance to really slow dow

Heather's Ultimate Guide to North-West Skye
If you're planning a trip to the Isle of Skye, chances are there are places in the north-west of the island on your list. And even though I've lived in the Scottish Highlands for over five years, there are so many places in this beautiful region of the Isle of Skye that I've yet to discover. I'm always returning to this part of the island whenever I get the chance and I just love having the oppurtunity to explore more of this beautiful part of Skye. A few years ago, I shared

Brambles Restaurant at Auchrannie Resort, Isle of Arran
Every winter, my family and I spend a couple of festive days relaxing and working on the Isle of Arran. It's one of my favourite things to do in the winter months-a perfect wayto slow down after a busy November in our business and before the busyness of Christmas gets really underway. One thing we always have to do during our time on the island is visit Brambles restaurant at Auchrannie Resort in Brodick. For years, my family have been visiting this restaurant during our holi

Dinner at the Shandwick Inn, Tain
On a recent trip to Caithness in the Far North end of the Scottish Highlands, we stopped for dinner at the Shandwick Inn, just outside Tain, on the A9. This eastern part of the Scottish Highlands is probably one of the parts of the Highlands I've travelled to the least, but it's a part of the Highlands that I really want to explore more. Often when we are heading to a restuarant, I ask myself, "what exactly is the perfect meal I am looking for here?" It's a kind of silly que
