Staying at Arran Shores Apartments, Lamlash, Isle of Arran
For me, there's nothing like a short escape somewhere you love and that's really familiar At the start of September, my family and I had a weekend away on the Isle of Arran to celebrate my Dad's retirement at the start of the year. We all love the Isle of Arran and it really does feel like an escape for us all. We decided to book to stay in some self-catering apartments in a place we've never been before: Arran Shores in the village of Lamlash.
Arran Shores is a group of 14 self-catering apartments set in a reburbished church in Lamlash. They've been beautifully decorated to the highest standards, with lovely features which made it feel both cosy and luxurious. My husband, brother and I were staying in Apartment 2, whilst my parents stayed in Apartment 7 at the back of the building (which meant we were all able to make use of their lovely garden space).
When we arrived, my family and I were really struck by the incredible use of the original church features to create a really modern and beautiful space. We especially loved the ways the church windows were used to be able create light in the downstairs of our apartment and in the upstairs of our apartment. We also loved the little details in the apartments, from the Arran Aromatic products in the bathrooms, to the Wooley's of Arran baked goods in the little welcome basket in the kitchen, to the little Arran Aromatics gift set as a little minder to take home to remind you of the island.
In all the years that my family have stayed on the Isle of Arran, we have never stayed in the village of Lamlash. It's actually the biggest village on the island and is home to plenty of lovely independent shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed being able to walk along the road to the local Coop at the other end of the village and being able to visit one of our new favourite spots, The Drift Inn, for a an evening drink on the Sunday.
If there's something my family and I are fairly notorious for doing, it's visiting the Isle of Arran on what ends up being the most miserable weekend of the summer every year. This year we managed to get across to the island on the Friday, despite weather warnings that day, but unfortunately we did get stuck on the island on the Sunday. Thankfully we were able to contact the team at Arran Shores and they let us stay on an extra night so we didn't have to sleep in our cars that night.
We loved our stay at Arran Shores and feel it was a fantastic place for exactly what we wanted from a place to stay for the weekend. It was a beautiful place to relax for the weekend, whilst also being in a brilliant location for exploring and seeing a new part of the island. We're even talking about potentially returning again next year.
