As For Me and My House

"Now therefore fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
Joshua 24:14-15
In the last few weeks, we've bought our first house.
It's taken us a long time but we are so thankful to finally be here. We've been looking for a house for two and a half years now, so it does really feel like this moment we've been waiting for and longing for.
The last few weeks have been a lot of painting, planning and making decisions. Thankfully, I haven't fallen out with anyone (especially my husband) during this process, although I have had a few good cries during this process. Renovating a house is hard enough. Renovating your first home, which also happens to be a quirky Highland cottage with wonky walls and old features, is a real rollercoaster of emotions.
We recevied this print as a moving gift from some of our friends and this really is my prayer for this house as we settle in. That this house might be somewhere where we can serve the Lord.
We want this house to be somewhere where we can eat together. Somewhere where people can come to rest and recover. We want this house to be somewhere that people can stay as a base point to explore nearby area, like the Isle of Skye, Lochalsh or Wester Ross. We want this home to be somewhere where we can pray together and study the Bible together. I'm hoping we can turn this wee house into a beautiful home.
