Lean To Coffee, Isle of Skye

Since moving to the Scottish Highlands in 2020, one of my favourite things about living here is the incredible way small businesses use what they have to create a magical and usually totally unique space. We've been able to support businesses built by the roadside in renovated campervans or sheds thoughout the Highlands and Islands. You just never know what you might come across in an adventure around the Scottish Highlands.
One spot on the Isle of Skye that really has done an incredible thing with what limited space they have is Lean To Coffee, based in Ashaig just outside Broadford in the south of the island. It's in a fantastic spot for any adventures on the island, as it's 8 minutes from the Skye Bridge. Lean To Coffee is made up of a coverted storage container (which hosts their coffee machines, display case and till area) and a repurposed crofters cottage. It's rustic and simple, yet super cosy and a really wonderful place to see the ingenuity of the people of the Scottish Highlands.
For me, Lean To is probably my favourite place to get coffee on the island (which is handy, because Lean To is the most convenient coffee spot for me to get to the island). They make fantastic coffees, as well as other hot drinks such as tea, chai lattes and hot chocolate, making it a great spot for heading off on an adventure on the Isle of Skye.
One of the more famous Lean To is known for locally are their incredible toasties. On a visit last year, I had one of their cheese and venison salami toasties, with their house made chilli sauce. It was such a good lunch, especially because they make such an effort to use local and seasonal ingredients in what they make.

Another discovery I only made this year on an early morning visit to Lean To is their incredible pastries. If I had the choice, I would choose these kind of laminated pastries everyday. We recently visited and enjoyed a strawberry and mascarpone pastry, which is my idea of a perfect pastry. If you're visiting Scotland during the summer months, there's nothing quite like Scottish strawberries, so this was truly special. We also enjoyed a lemon curd cruffin, which was an amazing sweet treat to go alongside our morning coffee.
As of time of writing (summer 2026), Lean To Coffee is open 7 days a week from 8am to 3pm. They normally close over the winter months, however they were open in winter 2025, making a welcome spot for locals to visit during the long winter months.
