Light in Dark Days

"So Jesus said to them, "The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where He is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light."

John 12:35-36

One of the things that I love so much about living in the Scottish Highlands, especially during the winter months, is how many people around here love fairy lights. Growing up in Glasgow, fairy lights were fairly exclusively used only during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Then, as soon as the festivities were over, the lights went back into their boxes for another year.

For the last few years, we've ended up keeping some of our Christmas decorations up until the end of January. I know this is a fairly controversial opinion, but for me, it's been one of the best ways to retain my sanity in January. Having some Christmas lights up in January has made such a big difference to my mood.

These verses remind me of that need to stay in the light with the Light of the World. It's so easy for us to fall into a world of darkness. Yet Jesus calls us to live in His light. Whilst His Light shines, we need to make every effort to walk in His light, to trust and follow in His footsteps.

At the start of this New Year, I am choosing to walk in His light and trusting that He will light the way for me.
