Lost in Wonder

"Who among the gods

is like you, Lord?

Who is like you-

majestic in holiness,

awesome in glory,

working wonders?"

Exodus 15:11

Since the start of this year, I've been trying to read a Christian book every month. It's a challenge I wanted to set myself because we have so many books sitting in our house that are desperate to be read. I also wanted to prioritise growing in my faith this year, and reading through these books has really opened my eyes to how I want to continue to live my life.

I've been reading How to Pray by Pete Greig recently, and this quote really struck me:

"We are hardwired to wonder and therefore to worship."

When I moved to the Scottish Highlands and my life naturally slowed down a bit and I started spending more time in nature, I noticed my default setting started to be towards wonder. It's become a way to be thankful for the changes I see around me each day.

It's what, or rather who, we do with that wonder that really matters. It is God alone that deserves our praise for the wonders we see each day. He is the One who has done such marvellous things. It is Him alone that I worship.
