Interiors at the Plockton Inn, Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands

There's no doubt that Plockton is one of my favourite villages locally to us in Lochalsh. It's one of the first places during the early days of my husband and I's relationship, when we were relying on others to take us places. We would wander the streets and watch the water and, if we were lucky, we'd get an ice cream. To be honest, our trips to Plockton now don't really look that different. There's something so lovely after wandering the cottage lined streets, admiring the beauty gardens and listening to the sounds of the sea.

Despite my love for Plockton, I realised recently that we didn't know anything about the restaurants here. There are a number of restaurants in the village serving delicious food throughout the year and I really wanted to try some of them for myself.

Our first visit to was to the Plockton Inn. In the last few years, the Plockton Inn has had a big renovation and it is looking really beautiful now. The interiors are now a beautiful blue, really adding to the seaside village feel.

Wee Fish and Chips from the Plockton Inn, Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands

For lunch, there really was only one thing I could have: a "wee portion" of fish and chips. When you're by the sea, you just have to have fish and chips. I loved my delicious crispy fish and fresh chips. I also loved their mushy peas and tartare sauce. This is the first time I ever had tartare sauce and actually enjoyed it, so hats off to the Plockton Inn for that.

Finlay, my husband, decided to have crayfish macaroni cheese. You'll know how much I love crayfish after trying it at Harbour Lights in Lossiemouth (which you can read about here) but Finlay loved how the sweetness of these little bitesize crusteceans added to the salty richness of the macaroni cheese.

If you're looking for a cosy wee spot to enjoy a spot of lunch, I really recommend checking out the Plockton Inn. We are hoping to return again at some point and try their dinner selection. There's also normally some music at the Plockton Inn, so it's a great place to find a bit of warm Highland culture.
