Miss Ying Thai Restaurant, Dingwall

ree

One thing I wish we had more of in the Scottish Highlands is restuarants from a variety of international cuisines. Although we have a lot of incredible food and drink options all across the Highlands and Islands, one thing I miss about Glasgow is the oppurtunity to get out and try food from all over the world.

If you were wanting to find some of the best Thai food in Scotland, my bet is you probably wouldn't think to visit Dingwall. But if you ask my opinion, the best Thai food I've ever had in Scotland has been served at a little restaurant in Dingwall in the Scottish Highlands.

We've had the pleasure of visiting Miss Ying a few times, both to sit in their wee restaurant and as a takeaway after a long journey. We don't often spend a lot of time in this part of the Highlands (although you can read my previous blogposts from Easter Ross here) but I would say that Miss Ying is probably my favourite eatery in this part of the world.

This time on our visit, since we were having a time with 7 other people, we decided to get a mixed platter as a starter and our own main courses each. Featured on the mixed platter starter was vegetable spring rolls, prawn toast, chicken satay, chicken wontons and a peanut sauce and a sweet chilli sauce. If you're looking for something to split between two with a mixture of some of the best Thai options, this one is perfect.

Gang Phet Ped Yang curry, Miss Ying Thai Restaurant, Dingwall, Easter Ross, Scottish Highlands

For my main, I chose to get a Gang Phet Ped Yang, which was crispy duck with a red coconut cream curry, served with lychees, cherry tomatoes, grapes, pineapple and peppers with a bed of Thai rice. When I say this is one of the best Thai curries I've ever had, I truly mean it. The crispy and rich duck paired beautifully with the spicy red curry, which paired beautifully with the incredible fruity pieces in the sauce. I absolutely loved this curry and so did the other people at my table who had it as well!

Often, my husband and I choose to split our meals, so we end up getting half of two meals. He chose the prawn Pad Thai, which was the perfect combination of fresh and sour, nutty and spicy.

This restaurant is the perfect quick stop in Dingwall and we absolutely loved our meal here. Miss Ying is also one of the best value for money restaurants in the Highlands, with each person's meal coming out to about £15 per person. If you're looking for authentic Thai food in the Scottish Highlands, this is the perfect spot to check out.
