"You prepare a table before me
in the presense of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows."
Psalm 23:5
At a Christian camp I was helping at recently, we were chatting with our young people about the idea of blessings overflowing. The idea that the good and godly things coming from the overflow of our lives. And out of this overflow, the multitudes of blessings of God are shown to those around us.
The thing about a cup overflowing is that that state can only come from something being filled and filled until the overflow comes. You can't get to a state of overflow if you are half full. You can't get to a state of overflow if you are empty.
So how do we get to this state of overflow? We have to be constantly filled up.
Up until quite recently, I'm not sure I can really say I've been filling my cup. I've been reading my Bible each day and praying, but often it feels more like going through the motions rather than actually filling me up. But recently, I've felt a real shift in how I want to spend my time. Rather than spending the minimal amount of time with God in order to "tick a box", I've really wanted to spend more and more time with God, reading His Word and praying, and I am excited to see where this shift leads.
I am excited to see what comes out of the overflow.
