On Achieving Goals

Spring in the Scottish Highlands

"For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things.

To Him be the glory for ever! Amen"

Romans 11:36

Over the last few weeks, I managed to tick a huge goal for 2025 off my year's goal list. It required a lot of hard work (and many anxious tears) but I am so glad that the hard work managed to pay off.

At the start of this year, like with most years, I spent a couple of hours reflecting on the year before and planning for the year ahead. I love this little activity to try and get in the right headspace to achieve my goals for the year ahead. The problem with me, though, is that I am prone to setting myself goals that are often overambitious. I noramlly end up setting goals so high that I have no chance of possibly achieving them.

This time around though, I have actually achieved a goal. I can tick one thing off the list.

So now what?

It's so easy to set these kinds of goals and then not know what to do afterwards. We are so focussed on meeting targets and goals, that when we actually achieve them, we just want to rush forward and try to meet the next goal.

How am I celebrating achieving this goal? Giving glory to God for all His good gifts.

It can be so easy for me to forget who is the Giver of all these kinds of good gifts. Through all the work I put into the event, God was sustaining me and giving me all that I need. On the days leading up to the event, He was giving me His peace and showing me that He was with me through it all. When the workload felt overwhelming and neverending, He helped me to get through what needed to happen. He helped me to achieve my goals and it is all because of His work in my life.

To Him be the glory for ever! Amen
