Talisker Whisky Distillery Made by the Sea Experience and Three Chimneys at Talisker, Isle of Skye

Talisker Whisky Distillery, Carbost, Isle of Skye

When people think of Scotland, they often think of two things: the incredible landscapes and whisky. I would say that everyone who visits the Scottish Highlands should take the chance to visit a whisky distillery and one of my favourite distilleries to visit is Talisker Distillery in Carbost on the Isle of Skye

Talisker is the oldest and probably one of the most well known distillery on the Isle of Skye. I've visited their Distillery Visitor Centre a few times (mainly to drop off deliveries) but never had the oppurtunity to learn more about the whisky. With my family visiting from Glasgow a few weeks ago, we took the oppurtunity to drive up to Carbost and visit the distillery.

Having now lived in the Scottish Highlands for almost five years, we've had an oppurtunity to visit a number of whisky distilleries across the region. I love a tour and I love learning about food production, so I always enjoy the oppurtunity to learn something new. During our visit to Talisker Distillery, we took part in the Made by the Sea Experience. Unlike other distillery tours, which normally go into all the ins and outs of the distilling process and the art of whisky making, the Made by the Sea Experience is an oppurtunity to taste the whisky and experience another key feature of this whisky: the island where it comes from.

For my family, this experience was perfect. It was a chance to learn more about Talisker's products in a condenced way, whilst also having the chance to learn more about the beautiful landscape of the Isle of Skye. The interactive and cinematic experience really engaged the senses and highlighted the beauty of the Isle of Skye and its famous whisky.

After our tasting experience, we had lunch across the road at the Three Chimneys at Talisker. Since taking over this spot last year, we've been desperate to stop by for some lunch here on our regular delivery runs. Whenever my family are visiting, we like to take full advantage of the day and try to enjoy some lunch out somewhere on the island

For lunch, I decided to take full advantage of meaning near the sea and enjoyed one of my favourite Scottish foods: mussels in garlic and white wine sauce. This was my first portion of mussels this year and it was such a warming and delicious lunch to enjoy on a cold and sunny February Saturday.

As with most things on the Isle of Skye, I would highly recommend booking in advance if you want to do either the Made by the Sea Experience or enjoy food at Three Chimneys by Talisker, especially if you are planning on visiting during the busy summer tourist season.
