"Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord God is an everlasting rock."
Isaiah 26:4
One of my favourite things about this time of year is seeing all the flowers blooming in our little cottage garden. Our little rental cottage we've been living in for the last five years has a well loved (and now little overgrown) garden full of incredible flowers, inlcuding some of the most beautiful rose bushes. This home was home to our current landlady's late mother, who must have spent every waking moment of her latter years tending and caring for this garden.
One of my favourite rose bushes in this garden is this one with yellow roses. I love yellow roses so much they were even a feature in our wedding flowers. The sad thing about this rose, however, is the incredibly short season it has. Unlike other roses in our garden, that bloom throughout the summer months after a bit of deadheading, this rose seems to only bloom for about two or three weeks at the end of May until mid-June, before turning into a jaggy green bush for the rest of the summer months.
I was reflecting on this when I was thinking about the eternal nature of God recently. There are some things in this life we wish would go on forever, like my beautiful yellow rose. And there are many things which I'm sure most of us wish would stop sooner. But we never really understand what it means for something to truly last forever. Most things in this life has an end date.
This is why it feels so easy for me to trust in the promises that God gives us. He is an everlasting rock. He is strong and true and He does not change. Not with the seasons. Not with His mood. He is forever the same and we can trust Him because of this.
