What's April Really Like in the Scottish Highlands

April is a glorious wee month in the Scottish Highlands!
After the dreary winter months, April comes along with the kind of light and freshness that makes Spring here so wonderful. The first lambs start being born in the West Highlands, and there's nothing for me that signifies all the amazing things about Spring like seeing the new lambs being born.
One of my favourite days last April was the chance to head out on the waters of Loch Carron on Calum's Seal Boat Trip from Plockton. For years now, I've heard about these famous boat trips which are guarentee the chance to see harbour seals on the loch (and will even give you your money back if you don't see any!) We had a fantastic afternoon out on the water, enjoying seeing the wildlife and seeing the beautiful village of Plockton from a different angle. We loved it so much we even took friends of our back on the boat in July! It's a real highlight of the West Coast in my opinion.

Another place I've loved visiting during the month of April is the Isle of Raasay. Raasay is an island off the Isle of Skye, which makes it an ideal place to visit if you have some time on your next Skye trip. Raasay Distillery is still one of my favourite places to learn about whisky and the distilling process, so I'd highly receommend taking a tour if you head over to the island. You can read my thoughts about taking a day trip to the Isle of Raasay here.

Easter normally falls at some point during April as well. As a Christian, this is one of my favourite times of year and I love meeting together with my church family to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. Over the years of having this blog, I've shared some simple reflections on what Easter means to me (which you can read here).
